Worth the Drive Down Highway 1

Soquel families are used to driving for the good stuff — and a great string teacher is worth the trip. From Soquel Village it's about 15–20 minutes south on Highway 1 to Rosa's home studio in Watsonville, whether you're coming down from the hills above town or over from the village itself. Parents combine the weekly lesson with errands and make an afternoon of it.

Soquel is just down the road from Aptos — and from Cabrillo College, where Rosa's musical roots run deep. She earned her AA in Music with Honors at Cabrillo and went on to serve as a Teaching Assistant for Cabrillo's Suzuki Strings Program, guiding the same young beginners she now teaches privately. For Soquel families, she's a product of the local music community, not a far-off name.

What makes the drive worthwhile is Rosa herself: a Suzuki-certified instructor with 10+ years of teaching experience, a BM in Music Education from San Jose State (Cum Laude), and an AA in Music with Honors from Cabrillo College. She teaches violin, viola, and cello to students ages 4 and up at her Watsonville home studio — from a young beginner's first Twinkle variations to serious repertoire for advancing teens and adult learners. She also teaches strings at Kirby Prep in Santa Cruz and serves as the Upper Strings Teaching Artist for YOSAL.
