10+ Years Teaching

Hi, I'm Rosa.

Passionate about building confident, lifelong musicians through patience, structure, and joy.

Rosa began her musical journey learning viola in fourth grade in Salina, KS and never looked back. She studied at Cabrillo College in Aptos — earning her AA in Music with Honors — before transferring to San Jose State University, where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2021.

Along the way she served as a Teaching Assistant for Cabrillo's Suzuki Strings Program, taught at the El Sistema program at Gault Elementary, assisted with the SJSU String Project, and performed with chamber groups, symphonies, mariachi ensembles, and local theater productions — including appearances with Pasquale Esposito.

Today she is the Upper Strings Teaching Artist for YOSAL and the String Methods Instructor at Georgiana Bruce Kirby Preparatory School in Santa Cruz, CA — and she takes private students in Watsonville.

Common Questions

Rosa works with students as young as 4 years old using the Wee Violin method. Young beginners get 30-minute lessons focused on posture, technique fundamentals, and making it fun. There is no upper age limit — adult beginners are always welcome.
It helps to have an instrument before the first lesson, but reach out first and Rosa can help point you in the right direction for sizing and rentals. Getting the right size instrument is especially important for young students.
